No free space (cannot create partition of requested size)

    Hello there,

I'm trying to do an "Entire PC" backup worth 2.3 TB of data onto a completely empty 4 TB drive, and I keep getting the error in the subject. Obviously I have more than enough free space; what's the problem here? Is there a setting I'm overlooking?

Thanks in advance, anyone who might know!

...anyone? I've poked around in the options, but to no avail. I've even tried reformatting my backup drive, but no dice.

    Hello.
I suspect that you are trying to clone the your "Entire PC" instead of creating a backup.

    Hi there -

That is indeed the option I selected. However, the entirety of my PC only takes up 2.3 TB, as mentioned above, while the backup drive is 4 TB. It should be able to easily accommodate a full PC clone/backup. Is there a trick to using that option that I'm not seeing, or?...

    Hi.
If you want to copy your partition(s), you need to have a suitable amount of free (unallocated) space on the target disk. You can just delete a large partition on an external disk then everything will turn out.

Clone ≠ backup. A backup is an image of the original partitions, an archive, simply a "packed clone." Creating a backup should not cause problems. I understand the storage of backup on external disks, but the purpose of creating a system clone on an external disk is incomprehensible to me.

    I'm having the same issue.

A Full Backup of Files/Folders to an external USB drive.

The Files/Folders amount to about 500GB, while the USB drive has 4.5TB of free space.

    ajscam,
Why your USB disk in the screenshot is displayed as "Local folder" instead of "External drive"?
    ---------
Please click on the "Destination" corner of your backup and attach a screenshot here.

Not sure why this drive is showing up under Local Folders...
Under External drives, only 1 network drive is listed.
    Nothing under Network locations.
