I have 2 ext3 NAS drives with identical partitions, but not identical data. Basically, I am trying to use the Paragon software to copy the files from one hdd (old) to the other (new). I access these via a StarTech Stardock2REU3 usb 3.0 device.
Both drives mount fine, but they do not appear identified in Windows Disk Management. Not sure if this is expected or not.
First try, I successfully copied four folders containing ~410GB of videos. Took 3.5 hours.
But, when I tried to copy ~1455 folders containing ~82GB of music, the copy dialogue discovered/calculated the transfer, but then nothing. The dialogue vanished. No copying started. I could only copy a few folders at a time, but even that stopped working.
I tried unmount/mount. I tried eject my usb hot swap device & power cycle dock. I even tried a computer restart. But copying is still not working.
I discovered that there are many folders showing as 'empty'. This is the reason the copy won't start if there are empty folders in my selection. Folders that show their contents copy just fine. When the drive is plugged back into the NAS station, those folders are indeed NOT empty. Why is this? Why are some folders shown as 'empty' but others are not? How do I unhide all files?
While connected to the NAS, I re-indexed all of the media files, but still some show as 'empty' on Windows.
These files are simply my own personal collection of owned media. The NAS is a single-bay Synology DS110j. All I am trying to do is backup my data to a new hdd as the old one is almost 7 years old!
Hahaha.. I figured it out. I am not a data or hardware specialist, so after much searching online, it was apparent that 'missing' files means there is data corruption. So I ran the verify option with auto fix and force verify clean. Missing files are now visible! Copying is continuing smoothly.
