It was done. I downloaded SP5 to both my computers. The desktop still worked fine--it was with the previous version also--and it was able to use a network drive as the target, successfully.
On the Laptop I was no longer able to select a network drive (only shared computers showed up in the network list). I attached a USB drive and selected that as the target. VSS started fine but then the program crashed.

Enable Enabling Paragons HotCore upon the guide: https://kb.paragon-software.com/article/185 and repeat the operation
