APFS for Windows issues with external SSD
Hi,
I just installed APFS for Windows on Win 10 18xx
drive not detected
Sandisk Extreme Portable SSD (2tb)
Model SDSSDE60-2T00
This disc has a time machine backup of my Mac High Sierra Disc on it
it also houses photos in a folder
I am trying to access the folder of photos
Drive not even detected by Windows : ( message
any clues?
links to doc appreciated as I could not find much on this
some banter about "snapshots" which makes me think that having a backup on the drive might make it unreadable..?
THX

Okay, so THIS is interesting. I have a Sandisk Extreme Portable SSD that I've used on my Macbook Pro (formatted APFS) without problem for two years that BRICKED shortly after accessing in on a windows PC with Paragon APFS for Windows. It didn't die immediately after accessing it, but a few days later. Drive is dead, no longer detected by Windows, just as you described. It is detected on my Mac by Disk Utility, but cannot mount (even after using First Aid).
Very strange. Searched for problems with APFS for Windows on SSD drives and found this post. Seems significant that it's actually exactly the same drive.
Re: APFS for Windows issues with external SSD
Hoping that this will not be a standard problem.
I have just installed the Windows 11 APFS driver on Windows 11 but as you found, the drive is not even seen in Windows 11, even using Partition managers.
Now I'll have to have a look at the drive when connected to the Intel MacBook.
I did create a support request but so far no response from Paragon.
Using Samsung NVME 1TB in various caddies.
