View Full Version : Why 2Gb?

I'm curious. When I set up a backup with Drive Backup Pro it defaults the size of each backup file to 2Gb.

This seems like a mighty odd size, because AFAIK there is no media matching that size specification - so if you wanted to copy these backup files to (say) DVD you'd copy 2 files to each DVD and waste a big chunk of space on the DVD.

I know 2Gb has been the default size for some time in previous versions of Drive Backup. I also know that I can change this size to something else. But why is this 2Gb in the first place? It doesn't seem to be a sensible size!

Incidentally, is it possible to change this default to something else? Perhaps there is an INI file setting or something....

I have an answer for you. 2GB file size is for cases when you perform restore of non bootable system using Recovery CD. You know that partitions are unmounted there? And according to file system access rules the file size for unmounted partition mustn't be bigger than 2GB.
