View Full Version : Stuffed
My Sata HD is stuffed...
Purchased HDM 2008 suite, yesterday, played around with it trying different things, made image backup to e: partition. made a recovery CD and a Advanced recovery CD...
Thought I would give the backup a go, rebooted PC inserted Recovery disk,
Thats OK, chose restore.......Nothing....waited a few Min's......Nothing.
Ejected CD...restarted PC....Windows Starting image appeared.....and it just hung...after about 10 tries...shutting down PC for a few mins between each try.....It refused to boot :
So I tried to do a fresh install of Windows XP Pro, would not do a thing, PC Just Hung HD Not recognised.
Dug out a old IDE Drive...after removing two DVD Writers. and SATA Drive..installed IDE HD, Installed windows XP Pro....No Problem.
Shut down PC, now installed Sata Drive As secondary drive...Thinking that once in windows I will be able to use Maxblast 5 to wipe the sata, do a format, and recover my Sata drive.. silly me!!
PC Just refuses to boot, with the Sata drive conected.....needless to say Paragon HDM 2008 will not be installed onto, my IDE drive, and I now have to buy a new SATA Drive....
At least I can hope Paragon will honour their 30 Day money back Pledge....we will see
hm, sorry but I couldnot understand the final goal of your attepmts.
There is something wrong with your PC. Try to connect this SATA to different PC if possible and check its ability to boot. Something on Hard ware or BIOS level I think. And note, HDM2008 Suite is a software that works on file system level only!!!:D
I bought HDM Pro a month ago, and I had the same problem than you : I lost a full partition, with OS and more. Fortunately I had important data burned on DVD before.
I asked for the refund, because I think paying something like 150€ for a bêta version is not acceptable. I think they know HDM is very very bad, because the refund came back within a week. I think they wanted to merge two soft into one (backup and partition manager), and that's too heavy to handle.
I'm now using both Drive Backup and Partition Manager, and it seems to work OK, except the Linux Recovery CD that misses discs. So each time you do something with these soft, as you never know how they will react, I recommend a big backup of personnal data and keep from breathing while they run.
And I don't speak about translations : if you want your language to be updated, you must wait and wait.
Anyway, Paragon is good on one thing : their support team is quick and comprehensive. You get fast reply.

Hello,
I use hdm on different systems ( SCSI/SATA/IDE ) and i´ve no problems with detecting hdds.
For me it sounds like you have a problem with Installing Windows on your maschine. ( correct me if i´m wrong )
If there is a problem with chipset driver from your sata controller, you can use the BartPe plugin to create a customized recovery CD including your chipset driver.

In reply to most of the posters above.....I've never had a problem installing
windows XP Pro on my PC before, It's a home brew Kit, so I know what is what with my PC....
The reason I tried to Re-Install Windows XP was to try and recover My Sata drive as it had become corrupted by HDM 2008, windows would hang up during PC Boot, so I thought I could reformat HD during a fresh Install of Windows..
But the WindowsXP Disk could not proceed with the Install because the drive kept hanging up.....I also tried both the Recovery Disk that comes with HDM 2008, now they would boot, but once you got the menu, you could not do anything else....Hence My 1st post......
However Since I made that post.....I did a Internet hunt for a Utility I used to have before......SEADOS....which runs of a floppy disk and makes a Ram Drive....
I found it, and unplugged my IDE Drive. ( as a precaution)..plugged the Sata drive back in....Success....SEADOS tested the Drive, found the Error, and allowed me to erase the whole drive.
When finished I inserted the WindowsXP CD, and it reformatted the SATA Drive and installed Windows...
Thereby Proving, nothing wrong with My PC, Or the SATA Drive, excepting that it had become Corrupted by HDM 2008, and made unusable
Now all is well again...But HDM 2008, will not be used again, on any of my equipment...
I appreciate that it could have been something on my Hard Drive that Clashed with HDM 2008, or even been something I had done during the use of HDM 2008.....That I will never really know, as I will not give it another chance.
Hard Drives are cheap to replace..but lost Software / Grandchildren Photo's / Music, are not, But like I said all is now well. :)

Very important note here! You did unplug IDE and it worked. I had the same problem when IDE and SATA drives existed simultaneously in my PC IDE refused to work at all. And it happened when I was plying with BIOS settings. Had finally to replace IDE with second SATA.
Have you tried to remove IDE earlier when using Paragon? Was this precaution used earlier? ;)
