hi domlanic,
what exactly do you mean with "don't understand how to load apps! (XP Pro SP2)" ?
Are you trying to install windows programs under Mac OS X? This will not work with the NTFS for Mac Driver. This Driver is for accessing NTFS volumes with the possibility to read and write files, format drives, etc.

Thanks Z_C,
Using Bootcamp Assistant with this 3rd party software (NTFS for Mac) there are now two drives on my desktop; 'Macintosh HD' and 'XP Pro NTFS'.
I can open the NTFS drive but cannot load any Windows applications-
obviously I'm missing something fundamental here.
The vendor (of NTFS for Mac) gives zero information, only telling how to install
their software- which was very straightforward. I assumed Windows apps would simply load from the Multidrive & be directed to this NTFS drive but not
so easy!
It's not clear what you're asking. zero_cool gave you a very clear response - NTFS for Mac is for reading/writing to NTFS volumes. If that's what you can do, then Paragon gave you exactly the right amount of information with their install instructions, and it is working perfectly.
As for 'loading Windows applications', what exactly do you mean? If you want to *install* Windows applications and *run* them, then you are going to need something like VMware Fusion or Parallels. But as for "loading" applications, I haven't a clue what you mean

Obviously I'm not very good at explaining my problem....
First, I am a relative beginner struggling to understand basic operating principles;
all I want is to run Windows apps (Word, Excel, etc) on my Mac.
I can do this by making a FAT 32 partition using Bootcamp. However, a website
recommends formatting as NTFS, for various reasons which I understand. Now,
if the partition is formatted as NTFS in Bootcamp it can only be read, not written
to- correct? So, Paragon say that their software overcomes all the deficiencies &
makes NTFS fully functional.
Dumb as it sounds, I can't understand how to achieve this; do I install Paragon first,
then run Bootcamp? If so, what options to tick in Bootcamp? My copy of Win XP Pro
needs to be installed/loaded/run (whatever you want to call it) on the NTFS partition
but I see no choice of "NTFS for Mac" as a target drive.
Look, thanks for your time & trouble; maybe I need a training course :(
PS- AFAIK, NTFS for Mac does not need Parallels or VM Ware, rather it is an
alternative to those

Can I recommend spending 10 on this excellent ebook:
http://www.takecontrolbooks.com/windows-on-mac.html
It should sort out some of your basic misconceptions.
To run and install windows applications you have to do it from within a running windows operating system. (There is another way but I wouldn't recommend it...google "crossover" and "wine")
You can have a running Windows OS on your Mac with Bootcamp or Parallels or VMFusion.
You don't need NTFS for Mac at all to do this. NTFS for Mac is NOT an alternative to Parallels, Bootcamp or VMfusion.
NTFS for Mac will enable you to copy data from the mac to the Windows volume, not run applications.
It's all in the Take Control ebook.
Finally you mentioned Word Excel etc....There are Mac version of these in Office 2008 for Mac which will run in Mac without having any windows OS installed. But for other Windows apps you will need a windows OS.
PS as you are new to Mac, can I recommend browsing the other titles in the Take Control series...they are first class, cheap and regularly updated.
