View Full Version : multiple OS boot

I would like to copy my w2k system partition right next to the original one, so that in case of problems I could boot to the 2nd, intact version.
I used to do this with partition magic, although there were problems which stemmed apparently from both partitions having an identical partition identifier.
I am glad to notice that with paragon you can edit the identifier.
Now, I have copied the system partition, and I have made it invisible and set inactive. I notice that the partition only becomes invisible when I use 'remove drive letter'.
However, when I try to set the original partition invisible and inactive and vice versa, set the copy to active and make it visible, the OS ignores completely my actions and boots the original.
If I remove the drive letter C from the original partition, I am not allowed to allocate the letter C to the copy. Without C the computer wont' start.
Is there a way I can choose either partition to boot with?
I have tried on two separate computers, and tried many times. Paragon shows correctly the result of my actions, but W2K happily boots from the hidden and inactive partition.
With PartitionMagic the OS presented me with a boot menu, and I could choose original or copy. Unfortunately it would access both partitions and create confusion.
After creating the copy with paragon, the boot menu does not change and shows only one OS.
I used to have these two partitions, and on occasions it was really helpful to be able to start the copy of the OS.
Any hints greatly appreciated.

Hi, channi07

Regarding to my expirience from copying system partition with Paragon the easiest way is to simply copy system partition and stay its parametres (active/inactive, hide/unhide) without changes. Copy of the partition will be unhided and inactive by default. This way you will be able to choose where to boot (boot.ini file will be updated by Paragon automatically).
