Decided it would be a good idea to get some backup for my PC so downloaded trial.
Copied image to portable HD.
Tried defrag.
Took ages so cancelled.
"wait a few minutes" it says.
After half an hour I gave up; couldnt see any activity so tried to reset computer.
OOOPS -
registry error, cant boot up XP.
Cant from disc either.
Engineer, data recovery, and reformat of HD.
No problem I'll download HDM again and bring back image.
Except I can't.
Whenever I try to restore I get a Failed - bad parameter message. Not sure anyway if I should be restoring HD or logical D. Neither works so its academic.
Thus far HDM has cost me £100s, and doesn't restore everything I have lost. Is it rubbish or am I doing something wrong?
Hi thefrasers, have you tried to browse the image with Volume Explorer? Does it let you enter the archive so to copy out single file or folder? This could prove if your backup image is valid or not.

Er what is volume explorer? Is it part of HDM?

OK I can copy data out (slow but good). How do I restore eberythgying else?
What image have you taken originally? Entire HDD or single partition? Are you trying to restore it to the same hard drive?

Never had a partition is so I reckon the whole HDD. Restoring to same HD but note that it has to be reformatted because we couldn't boot up PC. Have reloaded HDM and am slowly regathering data.
Very strange that you could not restore from backup archive. If you have bigger drive then try to restore to it. Possibly there were some weird geometry on HDD especially when Vista was used.
And now Paragon cannot restore to the same drive when it is detected smaller.
I would try to restore to bigger drive.

No vista involved here. The PC only has one drive and boots from it at the moment. Do I need to get a new one? How can I restore to a drive which isnt the main one?
Connect it via USB enclosure and run Drive Backup or HDM from Windows mode.
Run Restore Wizard and as the target of Restore choose external drive. IMHO bigger drive should allow you the restore.

Looks like the same thing happened to me - thought I would get some protection (backup drive) and now I have a defunct drive on my laptop that will not boot into windows. I have a recovery CD that will get me to start the restore back it estimates days rather than hours for 6GB of data!!!!
I have used back up software before and that would take say 30 mins - what is it with Paragon Hard Disk Manager 2008 Suite?????? xp
